OVERVIEW

The Mighty Grand Piton is a short film about a young British girl, Connie, who travels to the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia for her school holidays with her family. There, she accidentally awakens a giant robot buried under the Twin Piton mountains on the south of the Island. This robot seems compelled to protect Saint Lucia but his origins are mysterious. No one knows where he came from or how long he’s been there. During the many years he’s lain dormant, The Mighty Grand Piton, became nothing more than the stuff of legend.

THE SHORT

The short film is the brainchild of Wesley Louis, whose parents were born in Saint Lucia before moving to the UK. The story references his memories of engaging with a culture and community that he grew up just hearing about. We also get a sense in this film what it was like seeing for the first time a landscape that could not be more different from where he was born in London.

WHERE IT'S HEADIN'

What next?

Our goal is a 90 minute animated feature film Directed by Wesley Louis. Our story unfolds against the lush, tropical backdrop of St. Lucia. Beneath the idyllic swaying palms and turquoise waters, where life moves at a slower pace and is steeped in vibrant traditions. Where the elders play dominos to foster connection and the youth fill the air with music, from soca and zouk to country and western.

However, the island's beauty holds a secret that blurs the lines between St Lucian folklore and the intergalactic mysteries of the universe. This is a place where science, nature and magic intertwine to deliver otherworldly technology, complex relationships and an unseen before combination of visuals.

We have a multi-step strategy in getting this film funded and we’re working with some great people who are helping us make this dream a reality! We’re still on the hunt for more partners to join us on this exciting journey so be sure to keep an eye out for updates.

The way you guys can support us and the project right now is by following @themightygrandpiton.

/ Connie: an amalgamation of some of the kids in Wesley's family and named after one of his best friends' daughters. She is also really inspired by Chihiro from Spirited away.
/ Grand Piton: a Creole speaking mecha buried by the Pitons in St Lucia. He was brought to life from a doodle Wes did when working on another project and everything else unravelled from there.
